You can make use of the emoticons in your forum messages really easily now!
Just use the following codes (the key words surrounded by colons, including the colons) to add the desired emoticon into your forum message:

I love the idea of pictorial emoticons, but to be frank I think that copying and pasting like this is too laborious to make it popular in the long term. I've seen a bunch of other forum sites where you put in a code something like "🆒" and the script code automatically puts in the appropriate emoticon. Any chance of the script gods putting something like this into place?

Any chance of the script gods putting something like this into place? well, if we lay out the right kind of offerings to them you never know what might happen! grin

if we lay out the right kind of offerings Maybe a mesh with a split down the middle so they can reach in and grasp the poseable heart whilst it still beats?

No, you just bow before the altar of the script gods, burn some incense, make an appropriate offering (such as a Rolodex) and repeat the time-honored mantra: "Call key operator, call key operator, call key operator." ;o)

Support for emoticons has been added across the forums using the format kbennett described above. Thanks for the suggestions.

Ah. That was quick. You must've sacrificed a chicken to the coding gods. ;]

Still 🆒 :-)
I would like to have the little smiley gifs one can find somewhere on the wwweb too...

Nice smileys, but you'd think with such 3D software at our disposal we would come up with some that are rather unique to this forum.

If I come up with my own idea of a Emoticon, can you get them added in? I don't see how you would place them yourself... am I lost here or what? Thanks

audre ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 01 May 2002

at this time, you can not add your own emoticons unless you host them on your website and include their URL each time you post a message. in a few months, we are thinking of having a site / forum emoticon contest... after people get used to the idea of using them... we feel that this way, more people will enter the contest since they understand what the emoticons are used for. these emoticons were from a conest we had in the OT forum. we had very small turnout partly because people didn't really know what they would be used for. my advice is for you to save yours and enter them into the contest. thanks

Arg! What's wrong with the old text based system? Why do we need to clutter the place up with these things? I'm probably going to be in a minority of one on this but I think they suck!

LinuxKitty ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 02 May 2002

I like that idea :D but make them smaller :D

cliss ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 04 May 2002

Maybe you could do a set of emoticons but with a poser face or something?

bluevenus ( posted at 12:00AM Sat, 04 May 2002

Hehe. These are fun to use!

Virus ( posted at 12:00AM Mon, 13 May 2002

Sorry about the negative comment, but those emoticons looks really goofy.
