'Tis a water turbine, I do believe.. It would be placed in a dam to power a generator. Which means you've made a really dam fine image with the postwork on it, Mike!

Cool picture of a Francis turbine wheel. I wonder what size it might have been.. I estimate something around 2m? I remember when I was in school, we had the opportunity to visit a river power plant which was in revision. So I stood in the inlet right over a 7m Kaplan Turbine wheel. That was so impressing...
