Description
Plopped on the living room floor watching some stupid show, I was looking out the window and saw what I thought was a star. It looked like it was moving slowly so I figured it was a helicopter or something. It started moving irradically so I grabbed the camera more just for zooming in.. Looked wierd so I snapped a shot. My camera was perfectly still as there are pinpoint stars. I have done nothing to this. No levels, no sharpening, Nothing.. now somebody tell me what this is...I will email you the original high-res image so you can examine it . It looks like something crashing.. you can see where it appears to spiral.

I can't say for sure but there are possibilities... blue ice from a plane, a piece of space debris hitting the atmosphere, falling meteor... or the government's favorite explanation - a weather balloon that got away from them. :-) Cool.

Glad you explained why you uploaded this as I see it is very thought provoking. something I can't explain but like you, I would be interested to know!

Interesting. I have no idea but would ask any aviators close to you.

could as well be a fragment of a rocket or something man-made burning in the atnosphere. I've seen a couple times. Every time it looks like they zigzag or maneuver but it's a fallong and burning object in fact.

Perhaps some firework? Great capture though! :D

I'm 99% sure it's a flare. Impossible to say what type without knowing altitude, color, speed of descent etc.

I would be interested in the high res version! It is actually a bit of a hobby of mine, analysing images with strange anomalies in them. This is very cool! I would go with the flare theory, except you would have known it was a flare, flares "Flicker" in intensity as they burn, it is not constant. The rocket theory is also possible. Thank you for sharing!!
