Description

What started out as a bit of whimsy turned into something much more. You know what that's like. I whipped up a scene with Michael 3 and Aiko 3, intending to follow up on my "Manga Team" image. But then I started to wonder: how would Michael 4 and Aiko 4 look in that scene? So I gave them a chance to play the same roles. Think of it as a digital "screen test". Now I can't decide which one I like the best. As much as I love A3 and M3 with the bishonen morphs, I have to admit that A4 and M4 are looking pretty good too. Maybe even better. I'm liking that "Advent's children" look they have going. So then I thought maybe I should put them both up and ask you all for your opinions. There you have it. Care to cast your ballots, folks? Which team should get the part and which team should get voted off? Whichever team you all pick will get the part. I'll finish off their version of the image and post it with a bit of a story.

I don't know what bishonen morphs is having been late to the party, but if bishonen is used in the meaning of Manga beautiful I have to say that the first image is much better and much more suited to Manga IMO. I have never seen so small eyes in a Manga illustration as the second picture they must be crooks! The boy in the first picture seems more sure of himself and what his doing, the other one looks too old! You are not making a story about a home for elderly are you?

Ok much to think about here, especially in light of Ralph's comments. For sure in terms of pure Manga the top characters are more true; as Ralph points out the eyes of the second set are too small. And yes it is true that the top guy looks more confident, but in Manga the emphasis should be on female, and in that case it is a reversal, for the lower lady is the more powerful, both in terms of her expression and the fact she is wielding her pistol one-handed. There is also a better fit of the two characters in the lower work. Do you see how they are standing so that they form a V, drawing the viewers eye along the line of perspective and into the composition? In the top image the girl is perpendicular, breaking up the flow of vision. In the bottom image he is also leaning back just a bit and she forward, creating another V. And it is the intersection of the horizontal and vertical Vs that give the lower composition its designer "umph." All said and done for me: the second one is best, even if it is not purest Manga.

Maybe it is a good idea to use A3 and M3 for the young protagonists and A4 and M4 for the old thugs?

Actually after flipping back and forth 10 times. (dizzy now) I think the M3 and the A4 would work best together unless...not to through another wrench in here, you use a Hiro 4? Just a thought.

I'm sorta with brewgirlca and spdskool on this... I really like the posing in the lower pic, and I do like the M3's facial features... I'd try swapping out M4 for M3, or try posing M3 + A3 in the same or similar stance that M4+V4 are in right now. I still love using Gen3 characters too, and I still enjoy the ShadowDancer outfit, it still holds up very well to the newer outfits such as Complicated Eve by Uzilite. :edit addendum: Another idea that might be interesting is, if your system can handle it, make it a trio, V4, M3, A3... reminiscent of the Gunsmith Cats. You might have to adjust V4's size a tad to make her similar height as A3. Although a height difference wouldn't be so bad either. It would certainly serve as a nice contrast, taller, slimmer, leaner, less endowed vs shorter, shapelier, better endowed :)

I prefer the second to be honest, but then, I am not an anime fan. They are both very nice, but the first is probably better suited for the genre. :)

I like both versions but I agree with the other commenters that the composition and the woman's expression are better in the second version. In addition, the outfits both characters are wearing in the second version complement each other. In the second version you might try making the woman a little more "manga" with the A4 morphs (maybe stylized?) and, as has already been suggested by spdskool, use Hiro 4 for the man. Or an M3-A4 combo as suggested by brewgirlca, spdskool, and Spacer_01 with a shinier, all black look for M3's outfit. A great pair of renders!

With $3 and what I know about anime/manga I can get a cup of coffee somewhere LOL! Generally speaking, the top group have more of the anime look. But I'm with everybody here: The posing and outfits on the lower picture are far better than the other. Assuming you have the Morphs++ for both Gen4 characters, I suggest something simple to try: Simply spin the dials and make their heads and eyes a bit larger than normal. This seems to be a trait of the characters in the genre. Hope my VERY untutored opinion helps LOL!

I prefer the bottom pair; nothing to do with manga, just that the girl in the lower picture looks more determined and ready for a punch-up!

The lower image is definitely the best for many reasons. When in doubt experiment, and feel free to change your ideas as you go.
