Description

I took some liberties with the A-9 Amerika rocket's intent here. In real life it was intended to deliver a nasty payload to the USA east coast but was obviously not realized. It also is not actually clear how the intended act would exactly be pulled off, so we are pretty much left to conjecture. Here I imagine the A-9/10 project being used to restock one of Werner Von Braun's concept space stations...no doubt with fresh armbands and schnapps. I think if we had decided to dedicate our money and efforts into it, we might actually have something of this magnitude in space already! Unfortunately and apparently, we just can't get enough of exterminating one another. Von Braun Space Station: really intricate and very cool model from sketchup warehouse by Joe G. for free. Manned stage of A-9/10 Amerika Rocket: Also from the above source and also by Joe G. Sketchup, vue6Infinite, PS Cs3

His grave surprisingly is in a small gave yard just up the street from where I grew up. Its on my bucket list of places to visit. Yes he design rockets that were used in war, but his tunnel vision was always to go to the moon...which he did. One of the major moments of my life. Nice work Bill.

A dissenting 'Brit', that's unusual given this is hypothetical......sorry!!....great sci-fi ' what if ', the good thing about these planned but never delivered projects is their scope for imagining to-day......

Excellent image. We do have the ISS but getting it was like pulling teeth and it by no means generates gravity by rotation. NASA has the distinction of being the only major government agency that I know of that last set a budget record nearly half a century ago. Recalling how President Reagan made growing government an issue in the 1980 election...except for NASA, government still grows. Other government agencies set new records every decade or so while NASAs budget has declined to 1960 levels as far as percentage of federal spending. That's why we don't have humans on mars or lunar bases or the stuff we thought we'd see in our lifetimes back in the 1960s and 70s.

Mr. Brown could see how his dreams got reality and how his designs grew in Redstone Arsenal. His ideas were first used to build military rockets when he was in America. But then the race to the moon began and he could witness the landing on the moon and he did a lot of work for this success. BTW, in one dispute with an officer in Peenemünde, he told to the officer he would like to see his rockets fly to the moon than to London. He was jailed for some weeks for this statement. Like many scientists and engineers he was an opportunist. There were not many people able or willing to withstand the pressure from the Nazis. That meant to go into KZ and die or to work for the Nazis.
