Description

On November 11, 1942 the USS Alabama (BB 60) began her shakedown cruise and entry into World War II. She served in Atlantic and North Sea with the Royal Navy Home Fleet in 1943 and then transfered to the Pacific in 1944-45 where she saw heavy combat. She is curently moored at Mobile, Alabama where I took this photo last month of her portside secondary armament of 5 inch gun turrets. There are also 40mm antiaircraft guns. Hats off to all our veterans and active servicemen and women on this Veteran's Day.
