Description

Armed to the teeth....lock and load! Captured 10/24/10, at the 9th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. Much better viewed full size. Almost forgot this was our cherished and honored Veteran's Day here in the US of A, so I did an instant inventory of my voluminous military files, couldn't find any actual old grizzled veteran shots to use, so I came up with this image in lieu of that. Bill/bmac262, if he's looking, should appreciate this. Gotta get me more veteran photos for next time. How about a self portrait, you say? I don't even have any of my old uniforms, which wouldn't fit anyway, so no way. Be seein' ya, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all laudatory comments and favs.

I like the high key watercolour effect, which is your trademark.

Excellent capture! My back and knees ache to see all the weight they are carrying. On this day the sacrifices of the current soldiers, of veterans, and of all their families should be in our thoughts.

As always from you a wonderful interesting piece of photography. What struck me most of all with their uniforms was the amount of pockets they have, I wouldn't remember the one I put my keys into lol. Wonderful and patriotic photo dear Harry, on this day the 11th Nov, we too in the UK, remember those who fought and lost their lives for us. and have a 2 minute silence at 11.00 in the morning. hugs Jane xx

Hi Harry. A day late but I appreciate this image a lot...the boys have their World War II 82nd Airborne Division uniforms done perfectly. Look at that, the soldier on the left even has his knife tied to his boot...as they would have for the jump behind the lines at Normandy. Well done!

I don't know why I never commented on this, I thought I had, but I see now that I haven't. This is a beautiful portrait, harry, it almost has a painterly feel. Your postwork is beautiful & honoring. It's great to see bill's comment about the details (the knife tied to the boot). And the play of all those rumples & folds & those old high boots, this is such a wonderful capture. There's real pride in the shot (and in their faces), they stand with pride even while casual; and your softening of the background, I swear, also has the soldiers in mind, because you've created a quiet glow around them. It's beautiful. Touching work. Sorry I didn't comment on this before, but it's really a fitting tribute to the day and to all who were & are in the service. Very fine work from one who knows what it means.
