What I was trying here was to create a normal talking scene. As usual, I was going for a realistic look, but I don't think I really succeeded with that.
Two lights used in this, one infinite light as sunlicht and one IBL, created with BagginsBill's GenIBL. Skin shader is VSS, used BB's "Lens" for gamma correction.

If you are aiming at realism there are a couple of things you need to work on. 1. The shadows are too sharp -- you don't get that sharp of shadows except from the sun on a bright day or a single bright indoor light. Try using raytraced shadows with a blur of anywhere over 6, possibly as high as 20, and a strength in the .5 to .8 range. 2. Use depth of field. You can probably fake it using multiple render passes, and do some blurring in postwork. (Blur the mid-ground, with the door, and blur the area past the door more.) The pose and composition are good.

the sharp shadows were actually the third problem i noticed. first was that the light seems too saturated and not ambient enough for outdoors during the day. Kelvin's shirt shows an almost black shadow, and that's practically impossible given how light the environment is. the second was that the skin of both figures and their clothes seem to be overly saturated. the first thing i noticed overall, though, was how natural the poses were. i think her pose could have a little more movement in the torso and be angled a little more towards him, but in general, i think the composition is good and the figures seem very realistically posed.

Thank you all for kind words and good advise. I will remember to use more blurr on the shadows. I used a blur of 5, with raytraced shadows, probably not enough. The figures are more saturated, true. I did several test renders, but that did not change. Well, maybe I have to try a different environment.
