Description

I have no idea why I'm writing again. After so many months of drought, the creativity begins to nourish and produce again. I'm so blessed! Have an awesome weekend everyone! ------------------------------------------------ Through different eyes. My emotions swell dulling perception colouring dark with seething anger. A tiny voice sounds deep within lies 'take a step back and see it with different eyes' I breathe deep Close my perception Grit clenched teeth and exhale, relaxing taut tight tension. And open to view. My head jerks back in confusion Was this the same situation A few seconds ago? That's not tainted by cold Not fueled by anger? I see a new way, clearer, no smog of thickening day Easier to step forward And simply stop to say Yes, I see a different way

This may seem unrelated at first, but I am quite a fan of science fiction, and your poem sent me off on a mental tangent, all focused on a line of dialogue spoken in the film The Abyss...it involved, digital aliens whose native environment was water. At one point in the movie, the female lead character looked at the male lead after numerous indications to the contrary, he declared that the aliens might be hostile; the female lead informed him that all he could see was hostility and anger (which is why they were on the verge of divorce in terms of schmultzy storyline) and told him: "Well...maybe you need to see with better eyes than that." I remember that movie fondly and particularly that line. That's what popped into my head when I read your poem. It was different, totally your own thing, and nowhere NEAR a line of dialogue from a science fiction movie, but there you have it: a kind of resonance. It was quite refreshing and I love the main thrust of the poem. Stepping back and looking at things with clarity WILL often reveal that all isn't as we thought, and that our reactions were, at best, inappropriate--or just flat out stupid as the case may be. At any rate, yes...stepping back is such a necessary thing, and switching eyes on occasion is a necessity as well. This is great work.
