Description

OK this is not a new subject for me to post, but it is taken with different equipment. The telescope is a nice fat 8" Newtonian. The camera is a home built version of the ToUcam WebCam but I took out the CCD chip and stuck a bigger one in its place. Seems to work just fine as this first image shows. These galaxies collided millions of years ago. They are referred to as M51 in that Frenchmans list of things he found under the refrigerator and though were comets. Later this week I will post some pictures of a real comet.

Exceptional image, especially considering the very basic equipment used. Congratulations on the results of your hard work.

The spiral structure is clearly visible. Wish I could get galaxies where I am... The light pollution is too bad.
