... and thus concludes our little revenge fantasy storyline — except, y'know, if push came to show (as it no doubt will someday), I think we could play this game far better than even Kai and Frank have done here. Technology is a pretty amazing thing, capable of all manner of things deemed impossible even just a few years ago. But now? Deep fake videos can be done on your laptop. Documents can be generated in Photoshop, ones so real you'd swear they actually were. What used to take months of painstaking work on the part of retouchers and matte artists can now be done in hours, if not minutes, even more tightly and realistically than anyone ever thought possible.
And yes, some people are wielding it as a weapon, creating videos of, for example, Obama saying things you know he never would. They are so astoundingly real that you'd swear on a stack of whatever book you hold sacred that yes indeed he said these terrible things, because you've seen it with your own eyes.
And that genie is now long out of the bottle, so dont even think about trying to legislate it back in. All we can do right now is be aware and knowledgable, especially with an election coming up — on both sides of the border — one where issues are hotly contested, and both sides will take whatever advantage they can to make their points shout out over the general internet din. And sometimes that means things that, while you can see them, are no more real than a politician's campaign promises.
OK, a bit of housekeeping. If you havent submitted your idea for Elliot's next big film, you've got till midnight EDT Sunday to get it in. There've been some real doozies thus far, and a few Im seriously entertaining as possibilities. That storyline will kick in next week, with a bit of buildup before we see the actual piece. So submit your idea in the comments at this post, and maybe yours will get the greenlight.
Between now and then we'll be doing some one-shots. It's a good time of year for one-shots. Even the most casual glance at the news will tell you that.
Oh, and for those wondering if you'll ever see Kai and Frank's magnum opus in this storyline... well, maybe... when you least expect it.........
