Description

For some oddball reason, I’ve had Conan the Barbarian on my mind of late. I don’t know what started it exactly. Could be because the movies have been on several times of late. Might be because I’ve seen sites of late with information about a new Conan film and an expansion to the Age of Conan game. Or maybe it all started when Stacey and I were teasing about having our characters make their own version of a Conan movie with Garrett Grey as Conan. I’m sure anyone who’s followed my posts knows I have a soft spot for barbarians, warriors, swords and so on. At any rate, I’ve had this scene in my head for a while and wanted to play with the Conan sword I got from blbarrett, and here’s the result. One of my favorite scenes in the movie, based on a short story from the Conan saga called “The Thing In The Crypt” is when Conan is forced to take shelter in what he discovers to be an ancient tomb, and claims his trademark Atlantean Sword from the tombs occupant. In the movie, it was the skeletal remains of some ancient warlord, seen here. In the original tale, it was a mummified corpse that came to life when Conan claimed the sword. Mine’s based more on the movie scene. Had some fun throwing this one together. I really, really, REALLY love the way this one came out! The lighting and posing of the skeletons in the alcoves and on the throne are just fantastic. The light cast back on the 'Conan' character is just dead on and the bright light of the flame really draws you into the piece. Absolutely a fave here! And, you know I just have to be a pill about this, I still love those little rocks on the ground! Yea, yea, yea, I know, details...why'd it have to be details! 5*+!

As a self professed Conan nut, I love this. I hear Poledouris's score in my head too. Nice work.
