One of the rarest snakes in Australia, the rough-scaled python is only known from around ten snakes captured in the wild. Restricted to the small patches of monsoonal rainforest in the far northwestern Kimberley region of Western Australia, the rough-scaled python has one of the smallest distributions of any snake. At this stage, virtually nothing is known of its biology but it appears to spend its time in the tops of trees or in sandstone caves and crevices becoming active at night in search of food. It took me three days and nights of trekking to track down this specimen......NAH it was at The Royal Melbourne Zoo! But it was hard to shoot in a near dark enclosure through an inch of scratched glass. I felt really guilty lighting the place up as it was right in the poor thing's face. I was planning on shooting him side on with his head in the air to the right, but at the last second he turned and my flash went off in his face. Sorry about that Mr Snake! He wouldn't have even been visible without the light.
