Description
Spiderman creator Steve Ditko created this gritty hard boiled character back in 67 for Charlton. The character is notable for being considered one of the darkest and most grim of the silver age. The character was later acquired by DC comics where he's managed to show up perennially in a number of places. There was a lengthy run in his own title by Denny O'Neil and Dennis Cowans, he's appeared Justice League and other cartoons too. This character was also the basis for Rorschach from the comic series and movie "The Watchmen"

Thanks Joe. It's a coat I made in Hexagon and then made dynamic in Poser 6.

I missed seeing you when you came back. Nice to see you here again. This character carries himself well and must have been quite a sensation in his time, though I think he would be not quite so wicked in modern fare. Well I mean wicked looking, I am sure his evident bad manners would carry his reputation through the ages.

Thanks Roxie. Good to see you as well. Heck, I'm surprised anyone even remembers me; been gone a while. Actually the character was largely undervalued by publishers for a long time though he did cause quite a stir, being a hero with no compunctions about killing if necessary. While researching this, I discovered a 2005 miniseries which reinvents him as a tripped out shaman warrior which really seemed like a great deal of fun. I love The Question. I think he's one of Ditko's greatest creations (along with Mr. A). I saw the mini-series you mentioned above, and at the time didn't care for it. However, looking at the pages you linked to, I might just give it another chance. I really like your smoke effects in this image -- render or post work? I like the way they curl above him to (sort of) make the shape of the question mark. My two criticism would be that he doesn't seem to be interacting with that big bruiser behind him, and his post lacks drama -- perhaps if you flared out his coat and bent his knees a bit? Things like that would add drama to what is already a really great scene.

Thanks! Although I don't exactly see eye to eye with Ditko's political or philosophical views of the world, I am a HUGE fan of his work and Mr. A is one of my favorites of his! Smoke was done post. The intention was to show the Question disrupting the thug from his bloody unseen victim but I admit, it might have been better expressed. This was my first attempt at making my own completed dynamic clothes and while the end results look okay here, my efforts were remarkably clumsy which is why I gave the Question a more conservative pose. Funny little story about my not knowing what I was doing here: This was my first attempt at building dynamic pants. They ended up falling down every time I "clothified" the model. Not knowing how fix it (at that time), I ended up building suspenders into the pants to hold them up (fortunately hidden by other clothes). :-)
