Description

ENCYCLOPEDIA GALACTICA Edition 428193 - Earth English Definition: 'The Haven' An unofficial Language English1 expression pertaining to EGO 1703-00000214661. This body is the fifth satellite of EGO 1703-00000214655, a ringed silicate giant orbiting the class 'K' dwarf EGO 1703-00000114040.2 This system is within the sphere of influence for Civilization Humanity3 and lies in the direction of Constellation Cetus at a distance of 219 light years from Planet Earth. 'The Haven', or similar translations, is derived from the conjectured purpose for this world and is not an official IAU4 name. The Haven is a terrestrial object with a mass of 0.89 Earths. Other characteristics include:
  • Diameter: 12532 km
  • Density: 4.9 g/cm3
  • Rotational Period: 82944 sec (0.96 days)
  • Axial Tilt: 15.5°
  • Orbital Eccentricity: 0.21
  • Orbital Inclination: 36.8°
  • Orbital Period: 1589763 sec (18.4 days)
  • Orbital Radius: 741 thousand (103) km
The interior is 72% molten silicate mantle which overlays a semi-liquid core 94% nickel-iron and 6% copper. Although Haven also resides outside its central star's temperate zone, infrared radiation from the silicate giant is sufficient for liquid water on Haven's surface. But Haven's most remarkable attribute is technology, native to Civilization Isis Elder, active on the surface. Clusters of atmospheric spires are positioned at two hundred and seven (207) locations. These spires stand 2367m on land and 617m on the ocean floor. They grow out of the surrounding landscape through molecular programming which maintains and replaces the spires as they age. The spires would have been the first stage of an eco-engineering process to make the satellite habitable for Isis Elder members. As such they continue to maintain a breathable oxygen atmosphere on an otherwise barren world. Also remarkable is that there is no record of this satellite or its installations handed down from Isis Elder or retained by the Librarians.5 This world was unknown to all members of the Community6 until its discovery by Civilization Humanity in 24127 during Project Saphaea.8 These facts have lead scholars to surmise that Haven was seeded to be a sanctuary. Hence the name, 'The Haven'. According to Isis Elder's surviving history, havens were established as undisclosed shelters during the period called "the dark function". It was hoped that by obscuring their presence, parts of their civilization would evade the forces that hunted them into extinction.9 Evidence indicates that, at the time of seeding, Haven's star system would have been obscured by a planetary nebula. Haven would then be difficult to detect at range even if inhabited. The close passage of a blue giant - EGO 1703-00000044917 - over the last two (2) million (106) years has dispersed this cloud. It is believed that Isis Elder established several such sanctuaries well outside of their sphere of influence. Though there is no evidence Haven itself was settled. Today, Haven is a rare example of dispute within the Community. The membership of Civilization Isis claim that bodies engineered by their forbearers are their responsibility. They ask that such places be left alone. For Humanity's part, Haven is considered a candidate for future colonization. Thus far, six deep space missions have visited Haven. But no permanent installations have been established. Red dwarf stars should have many types of worlds since they have the longest lifespan of any type of star. Some are even estimated to be as old as the universe itself... 🌟

Nice one!

It takes a while to take it all in. I continue to be in awe. I love this entry. It is dense, cinematic and utterly fascinating. And that's just the narrative! The render is mind blowing. I bow to the master creator of fully fleshed out worlds that live in the past, present and future. This use of the word "epic" is justified here.
