Description

Okay, it wasn't really clear from the images I posted before, but these two illos have to be cropped in close to the figures for the proposed cover composition to work. These are the two options that I'm considering for the new cover of "Gift of the Dragons" -- to be released immediately. Here they are, side by side, type included, so you can see what they looked like in my fevered brain. The question is: Which of these two covers would better entice you to buy the e-book? (BTW, I will be giving this e-book away to people who have donated to Japan &/or New Zealand relief efforts. Details will be on my site & in my next newsletter, probably going out today.) Here's the links to the images without the logo & type, in case you want to review them: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2183198&user_id=509711&member&np http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=2186084&user_id=509711&member&np Thanks, folks! I value your input.

The one on the ride side - the other looks a bit "incomplete"

Hmmmmm ... Both sides are good. I would be for a combination: no boat but the dragon - and the a little bit bigger? My opinion. I think the boat is unreal - somehow does not fit into the picture. Anyway - both sides are impressive works!

Without the boat, the dragon lost all sense of scale -- might have been a fairy dragon hovering over his shoulder. Dropping in mist to try aerial perspective to "scale" the dragon ruined the colors of the sky. That's what I thought when I did it, anyway.

The one with the dragon and the boat. It gives depth and perspective to the work. They also foreshadow a journey with elements of magic.

Personally the one on the left as it's simpler and less cluttered and your right about the scale issues, hence remove them!

Hmm... when it's cropped down like that and the titles have been added then the one on the right with the boat and the dragon looks the better of the two. However, there's something "off" about the boat. I think it may be that it is supposed to be off in the distance but it looks sharp and in focus. I would suggest that you maybe try playing with the Depth Of Field option on your render settings and see how it looks. Just my opinion though :)

Depth of field, Zander... Good thought! Didn't think of that. That's a setting I hadn't played with in Poser 'til this morning -- mostly because of your suggestion. I'm always teetering on the edge of what I know how to use in this program, pushing to get the kind of renders I want, yet, at the same time, working within time deadlines for products, etc. If I do "Gift" in a print version, I may re-render with the DOF setting -- now that I'm playing with it on another render. (Heck, I may re-do it just because I'm a bit obsessive that way -- though the original render is already up.) When I get D0F down better, I need to become more comfortable with magnets. And probably, at some point, I should switch over from 7 to my new copy of Poser Pro, too. So much to learn! Thanks.
