I have a large Friendhip Plant (Bromeliad “Billbergia Nutans”) that is a continuation of one of the plants my husband had hiding behind the curtains in the guest room window. He told me the plants are practically indestructible and they are very easy to multiply. This is very true. I think you could let it go a year without water and f it would still be alive. I found that it bloomed in the late summer, beautiful arching flowers that hung down over the edge of the pot. A couple-four summers ago, a friend came to visit me from her country. She helped me do a lot of re-potting, including the friendship plant. I wanted to give her a piece of it, so we checked her country's restrictions, and found she could bring it home with her. That's what she did. Wrapped it up in plastic wrap and put it in her suitcase. And, as expected, it flourished. The last I heard about it, it was doing fine. No blossoms yet, but she thought maybe the next year. I don't know if bloomed that next year. Somehow we weren't friends any more. She broke my heart. Not in the way a lover can break a heart, but just as painful. I wonder if she kept the plant, and if she did, did it bloom? The plant is also known as Queen's Tears. What a beautiful name.
