Description

That's what Lombard Street in San Francisco is called. You can't see the zig zags in this shot; I took it at the very top just as we started down. I feel sorry for the people who actually LIVE on this part of the street; they must get REALLY tired of the traffic, people and noise. This shot does show how steep the hill of the city are. It's a great place to visit.........

I saw the title and thought: Hey, she's in Prague! Navigating in Prague is like trying to find your way through a bowl of spaghetti. As for this shot, not only is it a crooked street but it's a multi-elevation affair too. That's a place I have yet to visit, oh but it's near the top of my list...just under the Eel River.

I love Lombard Street; I also felt sorry for the people who live there, but hey, they knew that when they moved in. And think of the accidents you'd get to witness, eh? On weekend days the traffic is steady, people trying to navigate those hairpin turns and short, narrow straights. It's more fun to watch than to try, although I've done both. No wonder it's been used on so many films!

Too built up for me, I feel distressed just seeing a photo of it!

Ah, memories! I love the view. They used to build streets like this so horse drawn wagons could get up the hills. Going straight up just would not work.

Nah - the crookedest street in the world is Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC.

Marks' comment (wysiwig) is enlightening. I didn't know that. Anyway, it's a wonderful shot of the sprawl of an SF street---I can't see most of the zig-zags, but I can see the drama of all that city unfolding below. And how it stands in relief to the water. Your light is bleaching and purifying, and it creates deep thick shadows. A beautiful SF shot, though I've not been there; it captures some of the real feel and mystery of the place, as I picture it. And your pov is dramatic and revealing, and full of motion and contrast. Your shots from here have been wonderful, Marilyn.
