I don't generally use color lighting when illuminating people because to date all my attempts have been disastrous. To the extent this image is somewhat more successful the beginning of a pattern has emerged:
1. Color variety should be minimal and complementary. Here there are only three. A dark yellow/gold light and a deep purple one. The rim lighting coming over her left shoulder and face is the same color purple but with its saturation lowered to provide lighter, crisper highlights. Anyway, it's a work in progress and needed for me to get better at.
And if any of you have additional tips, techniques, or insights then jump right in. The water's fine. :-)

This really looks lovely! The splash of yellow on her right is placed so beautifully, and it does enhance the purple/blue complimentary color.
This is one of the places I tend to have to pull myself back. Otherwise, I'd have it looking like an explosion in an M&M's factory. I have a weakness for blues, purples, pinks and reds (you've probably noticed...LOL), then tossing in a splash of yellow / orange just for contrast. I could spend hours just messing with light and color. I'm just glad I don't have to pay for a pricy model for an hours' experimenting..
