Description

This is my sixth and, properly speaking, my last post of santons... Because I have another beautiful little statue to show you, it is a cute baby that I photographed two years ago in a Brittany shop. But I will post him in a while, because in my next post I will come back to comic drawings, which my current profession today. In the first post, "Little santons" (Christmas statues), I explained the historical origin of these Southern France traditional figures. This activity is more than two centuries old. Please notice that this painter is drawing a mountain, not an ordinary (I could say default, LOL) one, but the famous Sainte-Victoire (Holy Victory) mountain, near Aix-en-Provence, which was the preferred subject of Cezanne one century ago. And his painting is in Cezanne mood, of course! But he does not look like Cezanne. Of course this sculpture could make a nice avatar for me, but I will not use it, for many reasons. First, I do not consider me as a great artist, but simply as a serious and ordinary professional illustrator. My avatar is truly me, so why change it except for another portrait which would be myself also? Finally, I am a left-hand user, and this painter works with his right hand. Like the nativity, the joiner and the card players of my previous posts (link below), this clothed statue is of the big variety, which is exquisity detailed. Best viewed full size. All comments welcome. If you have not seen my card players scene, click here:

And the winner is..., for Ledwolorz

Techdata: Nikon D70 with Micro-Nikkor 2.8/60, 1/150s at f/9, available light, aperture priority automatic, tungsten light balance, 1250 ISO.

I dedicate this image to Maff, an exquisite professional painter, and I heartily encourage you to enjoy his gallery at Renderosity.

The history of the santos is very interesting. It gives also size to figures (1-meter). Do you have also photos from it? Very beautiful image!

WOW! Wonderful, just wonderful piece of art! And great shot! My friend, thank you for these santon shots. Remarkable kind of art! P.S. Full-size view is really STUNNING. P.P.S. I don't know why, but in my mind he is associated with you. Although he is right-hand painter.))
