Description
The alchemist in the Middle Ages, a mixture of medical and chemical productioner. Either they were in search of the philosopher's stone, or they tried to solve the riddle of eternal life to. Each ruler had in his court, an alchemist, driven primarily by greed, because they thought of inferior metals pure gold to make. Until now it is still not succeeded ...

A very well made image showing the alchemist at his job - studying science. However, the story of converting lead to gold is a myth - it's actually an analogy for turning something/someone base/uneducated to something/someone of great value. However, greedy rulers have preferred to see it as turning lead to gold and pressured their alchemists to do the impossible. The search for the "philosopher's stone" was another analogy for the search for truth and knowledge, represented as a magic stone of immense value. Alchemists often had to use analogies to keep their work secret in order to protect themselves from accusations of witch craft.
