Description

If you look in the frog's eye, you can see the reflection of me holding the camera. It's a good thing, too, because if it weren't for that happy accident this shot would look just like 50 other frog shots in my gallery -- I'm starting to repeat myself and it's kind of embarrassing. Thanks for your comments on "for luck".

You may get frustrated, after your descriptions, to get such supportive replies, but you have your work to thank for it. Bach wrote a massive number of compositions, and many were little versions of each other. Like his "2 & 3 Part Inventions/Sinfonias". Each was short, each was a study, and from an overview, they were somewhat alike. Yet each was a small universe of its own. You do a lot of frog shots, and some are similar to others. But that's what it is to be an artist, ie, you'll do variations on themes, repeating themselves over time; it's kind of the nitty gritty day-to-day of being an artist. But the fact is, your frog shots are fine even when they're of the 'plainer' variety, probably because you've worked with the animals long enough to make a poem of them even in an off-handed moment. This is a very simple shot, but a haiku; and yes, haiku have been overdone...but I mean some of your shots are small statements with little worlds of their own. Not many capture frogs as you do. The reflection in water is just enough, the amount of head, just enough, and it's fun to see your face in the frog's eye. Part of every gallery, portfolio, etc., will be the day-to-day shots, and if I have to see them, I'll be happy to see these. This is a delightful capture of a few visual elements; and full-size, it has real shimmer.
