Another NPC for my good friend Donovan Morningfire's Alternate Universe Star Wars RPG campaign. Talin Starkiller is the grandson of Dono's namesake Jedi character & a Lightside Dathomiri Force witch. Talin has had a very rough life. His long-dead mother was a slave, & the surname Starkiller is all he "has left of her." Talin has sometimes paid the bills by entering pit fights (like the ones in the Knights of the Old Republic video game). He does have a couple things going for him--for one thing, he's an even more powerful Force-user than Granddad (think Vader's Secret Apprentice) &, just like Granddad, knows how to use that blue lightsaber of his. But with his backgound & the way he was trained, Talin Starkiller could as easily fall to the Darkside as serve the Lightside. Which path he eventually takes will depend on how the player character heroes treat this powerful & troubled young man as the campaign continues. It's all up to them, whether Talin becomes an ally or a very dangerous enemy... Dono told me he imagined Talin Starkiller as looking a little like the late actor River Phoenix, so I found a photo to work from. To make the character I didn't start from scratch, but loaded the Gabriel M4 character & tweaked the morphs, as well as adding some. A whole evening of work for someone who has never done portraits in any medium & wasn't sure what a lot of those facial morphs would actually do until she tried them. (The Undo Arrow is my friend.) Then I had to do a little more morph tweaking after getting feedback. Dono liked the result, including the mixed fear/anger in the expression & body language, as Talin fights these cloned Dark Jedi--and we all know what Master Yoda warns about fear & anger... I also played with the Hardcore outfit, making the glove fingers & most of the sleeves invisible. I intended to make the jacket into more of a vest, a Star Wars fashion staple--but was dismayed to discover that turning off the shoulder, forearm & hand bones in the sleeves resulted in a very messy, jagged edge, not the straight-line "cut" I assumed it would. So I went with it--thus Talin wears a jacket with the sleeves torn off. Then I decided that raggedy fingerless gloves would complete the look. Then it was time set the scene. My "Dark Jedi" are both Mike 2 wearing the RDNA Hooded Robes & wielding what I felt was the most generic of the lightsabers (Standard Sabre 1) from Ultimate Lightsabres set, since Dono had told his players the baddies' weapons looked "massed-produced." I also positioned the Dark Jedi so that little besides the robes and lightsabers could be seen, to emphasize that they were as mass-produced as their weapons--& totally disposable to their Sith creator. The background set piece is 1 of Wolfhound Jack's Death Star freebies. (I hope--for the players' sakes--my choice of sets doesn't inspire my friend the GM. Having played in his games, I can assure you he doesn't need my help to come up with diabolical ideas...) No postwork other than signature & correcting some poke-through. This is, from a certain point of view, a work-in-progress, since Spacer_01 plans to show me how I can improve the lighting & a few other details with Carrara. We've played around a little with importing the posed characters, but that's all so far.
