Description

Captured a couple days ago in the Tanzhe Temple, in the hills west of Beijing. Did the thumbnail image make your stomach do a backflip? It's interesting to find this fourfold symbol in a context of peaceful enlightenment.

But it's backwards to the symbol mentioned . . . maybe that's why it's opposite meaning . . . : |

Plus the swastika is turned 45 degrees. Hitler was very much into mysticism and the occult. Even the one nutted paperhange couldn't ruin a good symbol.

You will find this symbol in many places in the Hinduism. Came from a name Sanskrit, means " being good, well being" In a sence is shoking...great shot thou!

This symbol is in a lot of cultures, Native American, Chinese, Indian, etc. It stands for the 4 points of the compass (N, E, W, S, which is incidentally where are word news comes from, i.e. information from all points of the compass)turning around the world axis (axis mundi). The fact that Hitler misused it as a symbol of his "Aryan" insanity is most unfortunate.

I was certainly a bit confused by the thumbnail, what a strange thing to come across in the context of modern day meanings. Great shot too! Very well balanced. Thanks for sharing! :) jm

I'm glad the symbol can be found in other cultures around the world. Good to see it on this statue representing peace and harmony. Thank you for sharing!

I totally agree with all comments and I thank you for this post even if, as others, I have been shocked when just looking at the thumbnail....;
