Description

Standing Stones at the 9000 year old henge at Avebury. (That's twice as old as the tomb of Tutankhamen) The overcast day made photography difficult! For those who didn't know, the henge actually refers to the Earthworks rather than the ring of stones. These are much more extensive than the more famous Stonehenge, and you can walk freely amongst them.

Amazing picture. Nope. I never saw this before. Very cool. I'm so glad that guy is in the shot for scale. I think the overcast day made for the perfect picture of this site. The details are so crisp. Great shot.

Zigzag - that is a very small part of the main circle - it encloses pretty much the whole village! I got lots more shots, and can post them if people are interested...

I've always been fascinated by Avebury. There is so much yet to be learned. The stone at the far left of your image appears to have been heavily worked. That large cut in the middle cannot be natural. I love images like this because they are not only beautiful to admire but they also cause one to think. Thank you for sharing this image.

Was there two years ago. Even with the people for scale one cannot percieve just how high the earthworks are. I was actually more impressed with Avebury than I was with Stonehenge, even though I got to walk in them both.
