Description

A stained glass window designed by Alphonse Mucha in St. Vitus Cathedral. One of my favorite artists, who was born in what is now the Czech Republic. This window was installed in 1931...

Mucha's art nouveau is as beautiful as anyone's I've seen; but I didn't know he did stained glass! This is beautiful! There's a great deal of modeling here too (shading and such), and you caught wonderful deep hues. They seem to move from buttery yellows (on our left) to deep blues (on our right). Hard to remember that this is all taking place between lead and stone, because it's all light! Real clarity in your capture, and great light. Quite beautiful.

This is a wonderful illustration of why all stained glass should have been designed in the 1920s! LOL! Okay ... there are those who would disagree ... but I love Nouveau, and this is absolutely stunning. Mucha did such beautiful work, such quintessential Art Nouveau pieces, and this window is glorious!
