thanks to all who choose to view this, and even more thanks to those who take the time to comment. i hope you enjoy it.
sorry to be so long away from posting. i stopped posting because i stopped making new finished images, even though i had- and still have- several in the backlog. meaning this is very, very old now. i kind of got into Blender stuff, and completely got into job stuff. but now i'm changing a lot of aspects of my life, and hope to find a better balance. and i think it might help to actually post some of the stuff i'm trying to make, even if it doesn't make solid image yet.
so, this is an older image, pre-VSS and any kind of color correction. it uses my own, faulty shaders. it's the only piece in the SOMA series with a male figure, and i've come to realize that's largely due to hair issues. there's not too many hair styles for males that work in a timeless/classic kind of manner. it has a raw and a draped version, but i'm not going to spam you all with those any more. oh, and this image taught me the importance of efficient mapping and procedural textures. the original texture was too low detail to render at full resolution, so i blended it with a procedural texture.

Nice to see you posting! Really enjoy the drama of the scene and the specular on the skin has a nice feel to it, although it seems a bit blown on the shoulder. Hope you find the balance you're seeking in life, and I always really really appreciate your comments and input on my work.

I've never gotten a procedural blend to look this good--it adds so much richness and texture to the skin, and make the figure the center of attention. This is a simple, elegant but very rich image!

In this lighting, I see nothing "faulty" about your shader (skin??) at all... I'd love to see it. The lighting and the pose is strong and tells a poignant story. Your render has a lot of detail: the muscles are defined even heading into the shadows. I can't appreciate this image fully because my laptop monitor reflects ambient room light too much and doesn't display images brightly enough, so I'll have another look later tonight.
