Description

...over the dam. We've been staying at Balmorhea State Park in West Texas for the past two days. The main feature here is a 3.5-million-US-gallon (13,000 m3) freshwater pool built around the San Solomon Springs. The spring has a constant flow of 22 to 28 million US gallons (110,000 m3) a day so no chlorination is required. The water temperature ranges from 72 to 76 F (22 to 24 C) and up to 30 feet (9.1 m) deep. The photo above is some of the crystal clear artesian spring water flowing over a small weir dam between the pool and a desert wetlands full of birds and other wildlife.

Thanks Denise. The jagged red line reflection in the water along the top of the dam is of the edge of a red tile roof on a low white building nearby.

Good work. The jagged roof edge really shows the flow rate of the water and that the surface is a bit uneven. Beautiful colors, and ...wow, the foam and splashes at the bottom. I wonder how deep it is below the fall - water usually gouges out a good depth which depends on the fall height and amount of water at the base which the falling water has to pass through. With the temperature you give I feel like hopping in right away! Where I am, it's just above freezing and it's drizzling. Keep up the good work, Bill! :-)

This makes me feel giddy just looking at it, the bright blue sky and reflections in the top pool look wonderful, the water does look so clear, I am typing this quickly so I don't fall in !! LOL

This is exquisite, Bill - I can almost hear the sound of the water going over that spillway. And just look how clear and clean that water is! I'm amazed it's that warm - seems like spring water is usually more like 50-52F normally. That must be a fascinating place. I've always been fascinated by springs and the aquifers that feed them - where does all that water come from... Amazing..
