I know this boat is cruising slowly...we are overtaking it in a very large ferry.
Location: San Juan Islands, Washington State, just east of Haro Straight and Vancouver Island, Canada. Great Britain and the United States almost came to blows in 1859 over ownership of these islands. Cooler heads prevailed and both countries agreed to jointly occupy them. The ownership question was finally settled in 1872. The decision was made by an arbitrator,...none other than German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm I.

Fifty-four forty or fight! That was nice of Willy to do that for us although I suspect he just wanted to stick it to his cousins in Britain. Love this shot. Its the type if image that has you imagining yourself on the deck looking forward to a new adventure.
ok, tara and andrea mentioned the "wake": I had to look it up! I didn't know what that was. (I thought, what, someone died and there's a ceremony??? like, under the boat???) Yes, the wake gives a real presence to the water; and the details on your waves is scintillating; and you got a perfect lineup of diagonal waves coming toward us. And, in the background, two land masses with the right amount of haze and dissolution---your shot allows the natural decaying power of light to do its thing (you didn't clarify the land or make it artificially sharper, as many of us would do.) Lots of blue here, and it's very inviting and tranquil. Beautiful relaxed shot, Bill.
