As a second year student at the Korriban Academy, Yiula proved herself as a competent Sith Apprentice to her teachers over many tests and trials. So when she saw Janie arrive at the Academy, as an ex-Jedi wishing to become a Sith, she was shocked when she learned the young human girl had bypassed the whole process, and had been admitted as a full Sith Inquisitor by the Headmaster, even though she was not much older than her. So when the two happened to be on the same space station, far from Korriban, Yiula made her move and confronted Janie in a hallway, challenging her to a duel to the death. The human accepted, and as soon as the fight started, Yiula realized the mistake she had just made. There was a good reason why Janie was promoted within the Sith ranks. The young Chiss student's powers were nothing compared with Janie's command over the Dark Side. After barely deflected several Force powers, Yiula was forced to the ground, losing grip on her weapon, begging for her life. Janie kept an amused smile the whole time, and looked down at the defeated girl with her glowing orange eyes. To Yuila's surprise, she offered the Chiss a single chance to escape death: ''Swear your loyalty to me, on your life, and serve me as my pet, in any way I see fit, and I will let you live.'' The Chiss agreed, a tear in her eye, and was even more surprised to be allowed to live. After that moment, her life changed forever. She was forced to leave the Academy, to forgo becoming a true Sith, instead becoming one of Janie's loyal agents. But she was still alive, and would always be thankful to her new mistress for having spared her, the day Yuila had made the biggest mistake of her life.
