Description

Traffic on the move along the M40 motorway at dusk... all my previous shots of this kind were taken much later in the evening, resulting in a very dark background. On this occasion I opted to shoot during the afterglow of sunset so that there would still be a touch of colour and light in the sky, but also so it would be dark enough that I could make use of longer shutter speeds to get the effect I was after (currently don't own any ND filters). Exposure here was 30 secs @ f/16, ISO 100. As usual I got beeped at a few times by traffic passing underneath... never can figure out what that's all about (and yes I was fully clothed!)... whatever, I just ignored it until I had my shots :) I got plenty of variations messing around with different shutter speeds but this longer exposure is probably my favourite. No points for originality, more a personal 'definitive shot' of this stretch of road...

Beautiful shot! The streaks of the clouds go wonderfully with the motion of the traffic.

Around here, anyone stopping and standing on an overpass watching the traffic below, is thought to be a potential danger. So many accidents caused by things being thrown off the overpass into the cars, crazies with BB guns shooting out windows and occassionally a jumper who wants to end it all. People honk here too as a warning to cars around them that someone is suspicious up on the overpass. This is a stunning shot and I lvoe how my eye races along the colors out to the horizon.

Very nice exposure, I think it was well worth the harassment you received but then I wasn't the one standing on the bridge ;)
