Yesterday we visited another coastal artillery battery. This one was built in 1904 at a post by the name of Fort Columbia. The US Army began building fortifications with concrete in the late 1800s...getting away from earth and brick works of earlier eras.
Caught this window while wandering around in some subterranean rooms below where the big guns once stood...

Oh, my! I thought at first this was a prison cell, and that being the reason I haven't seen much from you lately. So, you're doing a grand tour of all the old forts in Washington. You must have a whole library of interesting architectural fortification work. Any chance of us seeing more of these old sites? Keep up the good work! :-)
