Description
Graphite pencils, 2H to 8B. Title means "break the shell"
This drawing had an amazing journey. It began as a self portrait, but then I added the breaking wall and I no longer felt like it was just about me anymore. Then I moved to Santiago de Chile, and found myself in the heart of violent protests and riots, and eventually government curfews.
The breaking wall now means something entirely different, and the shell I am breaking out of here is not the metaphorical shell of social isolation, but the physical shell of the apartment I have been stuck in these last few days.

It might take a while to see more from me because I need to get my hands on some tools (fixative, pencil sharpeners) and it is very hard to do anything amidst the massive protests (luckily they are less violent now, but they are still blocking traffic, supplies, etc.)
Worry not: I will be back.

You have made an impressive image of what is currently taking place in Chile. I sincerely hope that the violence will soon move up to peace and peacefulness. Best wishes from The Netherlands.

Thank you for your remarks on my recent pieces. This one in particular is very surprising. I do think it is about what is going on here, but the entire composition was completed before I came here and before any of this started. It is a really odd thing how the drawing gained new meaning without really changing any of its elements. I didn't really do anything for its meaning to change, but it changed anyway. I don't think this has ever happened to me before.
As for what is going on in Chile, I do not understand local politics well enough to give real insight, but I have seen both the best and worst parts of human nature up close and personal in the last two weeks. It has been an amazing ride. There have been some times when I was absolutely terrified, but there have also been times of really intense beauty.
Eventually, I will draw about this deliberately, but it will take quite some time for me to process this amazing experience.
