Postwork Progression .. for Brigitte (blondeblurr) by auntietk ()
When I posted the first of these two pieces, Brigitte (blondeblurr) asked to see the progression from original photograph to finished product.
I'm happy to share! :)
Using this technique in ArtRage is like a more sophisticated version of the smudge tool in Photoshop. There's no paint here, virtual or otherwise. I just moved the colored pixels around with a virtual pallet knife.
On the purple one, I took a photograph straight out of the camera, did the "painting" postwork in ArtRage, and then photoshopped the resulting image for contrast and light.
I learned something from that one.
I postworked the second image heavily in Photoshop and THEN did the knife postwork in ArtRage. AhHA! :) I consider it to be a better, more painterly result.

First of all let me say THANK YOU VERY MUCH - TARA, for giving me the detailed versions - my turn to say AHA now ... the result is indeed more like a painting, the grains are smoothed out and colour is more enhanced (purple) and the other way around on the cream coloured Iris! strangely enough I prefer the first option better, first painted and then post-worked - but that is just a personal choice and ever so slight in difference and still an amazing transformation, thanks again - and very much appreciated for 'letting the cat out of the bag' ;) (or techniques) ;) BB
Fascinating, Tara! You know, I'm a big sucker for this kind of stuff - seeing other artists' techniques... That's what I love about hanging out with folks here on Rendo - so much fun! Most excellent work, my dear friend! Now, you've got ME playing with ArtRage again......
