Description

The Lighthouse at Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Estimated to be between 450 and 600 feet high, the tower, built on the island of Pharos, used a polished metal mirror to reflect the light of a large bonfire to guide ships into Alexandria's harbor. Historic accounts claim that by night, the beam was visible by ships on the Mediterranean Sea up to 100 miles away, as was the column of smoke by day. Constructed in 290 BC and taking twenty years to complete, the lighthouse stood for over 1600 years, until 1323 when an earthquake all but toppled the structure. Today, scientist and archaelogists have uncovered remains in the waters around Alexandria that many believe are the foundation and building blocks of this most ancient of all lighthouses. Technical notes: Very little postwork was done on this image. Primarily the addition of the fire, smoke, and lens flare. The city walls and gates contain some gorgeous texturing, but unfortunately, it's too small to make out. This image uses a variety of 2d and 3d elements, and I'll leave it to you, the viewer, to determine which is which. The final scene was over 300 million polygons in size... Enjoy, and thanks for viewing.... Liteluvr

Everything is fine except the water texture... It is too "geometrical"... Try something different... This looks unrealistic... Improve it...

This is a very good image. The only thing that doesn't quite make it is the size of thepeople around the tower. Compared to the 3-story buildings at the ends of your piers, each of those people must be over 15 feet tall - they are also way out of scale with the boats. Other than that, this is extremely well done.

Excellent my friend you have done a splendid job of mixing 2d with 3D...I would say that some of the city is 2d,and the people...But I am probably wrong but heck who cares you have done a splendid job

Say, have you done this before? ... the water structure struck me as very synthetic too, and the wind and the sails on the boats are conflicting. Assuming that the wind blows diagonally across the pic from your signature, you only have to flip the big graysailed ship more than 90 degr.
