Description

Bedsheet, modelling compound and acrylic on canvas - 45 x 60cm. ~*@*~ When we first moved into this house, Jim wanted to know the techniques I used to create my fabric sculpting, and I worked the fabric onto this canvas as a demo, before promptly hating what I'd done and denegrating it to the 'maybe I'll do something with this one day' pile. Stuck for something to paint on Saturday, I pulled it out again and took a few hours to work out how to fit a composition into its strange form...I think it works :) ~*@*~ Thank you for viewing and your feedback is always most appreciated.

This convergence of Jim and yourself using fabric sculpture is fascinating me. I almost thought your last post was a stray Synapse work. With this one, I like the way your paintwork adds to the relief effect of the fabric. There's also a sense of movement as if the stuff is piling up, out of control, like in a banal, bad dream! This reminds me, I just got hold of a Hans Bellmer catalogue from the Centre Pompidou, Paris, in which thanks to the superior photography I can finally see that the surrealistic portrait of his wife, Unica, includes what I assume to be her own gown bonded to the canvas!

Sometimes an image just needs the right time to come out. Obviously when you started this, it wasn't the right time for the expression. And now it is. hugs hard

You've boggled me on this one! I agree that it was hard to think of what the hell to do with this one but the solution you've arrived at is a huge success! Again I wondered what you were doing in the early stages with all those garish reds and yellows before you almost completely covered them with the colours we see here. Reminds me of some of the groundbreaking art forms from early on in the last century - certain Surrealists like Max Ernst and Giorgio de Chirico perhaps, also Russian Constructivist works. A great success and I think you know how much I love it by now ;-) hugest hugs
