Heady days for US naval fliers...breakthrough engine technologies were flying off the designer's drawing boards as well as new concepts in fuselage construction. These fliers got to try them all out... along with an exciting new portable landing field and delivery system that was beginning to come into its own, the aircraft carrier. Complying with the 1922 Naval Treaty limiting the tonnage of battleships and heavy cruisers allowable, the "Lady Lex" was originally designed as a heavy cruiser and then converted into a aircraft carrier during construction...ironically an even deadlier and more versatile beast than either the battleship or heavy cruiser that it replaced...Ever onward, ever upward. Clever, ain't we?

Now that is niiiicccce! Interesting that about the 'value' of carriers over 'capital' ships.Mr Hitler built the biggest one of all and then bottled out, afraid of Britain's 'Big Guns', guess we're all wiser with hind sight. Another great seascape mate, worth all the 'tweeking' you do so well, a 'tip of the hat' to your skills in my most recent post :-) This ones a keeper, Instafave.... 10/10++
