Celtic chalice (9th century). Done to check displacement maps (bump maps don't work with this detailed relief) The simple lathe shape have 20.000 faces, that increases to 1,300,000!!! during the rendering (yes: I've written one million three hundred thousand). The difficulty here it's to perform those gray scale maps (also done by me with Max based upon true celtic ornaments) and applying the UVW coordinates. At my website you'll find the cloth mesh (useful as exhibitor instead the bored plain) to download.

It looks great! I do have a tip for you: Using Renderman with the ANimal logic Maxman plugin. Displacement is supported within renderman without the need to subdivided faces. Save an awwfull lot of rendering time and it's briljantly precise! I will try to put an example in my gallery, take a look.
