Description

Before I talk to you about this piece, let me tell you about my journey to get here. To start, I began work on this piece about six months ago. When this was started, my company was going through some significant changes. Let's just say I was one of the casualties of war. I won't bore you with that. On top of what was happening to me with my work life, I also began to have horrible problems with Bryce. Functions stopped working. The program would not save the changes or crash any time I wanted to change this image. I felt like Don Quixote, and this was my windmill. I could not let it go and move on. My Bryce is still not working correctly. I completed this image with an older copy of Bryce I had lying around. So, I'm done with it, and I can get on with my creative life. This is straightforward work that wasn't meant to take this long. As I just stated, I started this six months ago. It was meant to be in response to "TheBryster" on a remark he made about the last work I posted here, "Lost In The Jungle," and I quote: "A great ship design and a great scene, but it suffers from Bryce Blue - that blue tinge that often spoils beautiful work. I would try to get a greenish tint to the thing or normalize the ambient atmosphere." So I set about to make the most non-blue picture I could think of making. At the same time, I wanted to honor one of my heroes, Syd Mead. And, voila! More about this render. I love the way that Mead projects the automobile far into the future. What I created here is my attempt at that. The car is of my own design. I like to think of it more as a land yacht than a car. It's self-driving because who has the time to drive in the future. Also, at this time, only the very rich can afford to own a car. The rest of the scene I took from Mead himself. It also gave me that non-bluish look I was trying to achieve. Bryster, how'd I do? Enjoy, Vincent

I'm really sorry that you had lost your job! As you I've lost my job on 2005 for the same reasons at the age of 42. I was one of the product designers (computer graphics) of an multinational company. After that I've thinked to promote myself worldwide (via web) as illustrator, and I've start a new job, working at home without bosses... ;) Anyway... you have really catch the mood and the style of Syd Mead (one of my heroes!)! This is a really great artwork! Do more like this and you will have a brand new job!!! Please post or send me some pictures of the "making" of this artwork because I'm really curious on how you do it with Bryce!!! You can find my personal mail at www.innovari.it Just added this image to my preferred... :)

Bryster, how'd I do? I'm astounded that my few words had such an impact on your work. And that this piece is an answer to my well-meant crit. It is a beautiful piece and extremely well finished - not a hint of Bryce-blue anywhere. You are to be congratulated. However, I am a bit disturbed that those three figures look like futuristic Cardinals........

My first look at this and I instantly thought "Syd Mead? - here?". The influence is utterly unmistakable. This is absolutely fantastic. I'm in the same boat - jobwise - although my fields of expertise do not enter the illustration field. My interest in CG artwork is only a recent development in my life. Hang in there, with work like this in your portfolio I can't see you banging on doors for very long. Illigitimae non carborundum (don't let the b@#$@$#s wear you down - or something like that, my latin never got beyond really bad.)

I like this a lot! I like how crisp and polished the materials are, and how rugged the others look. This is fantastic!
