Description

-From "A Brief History of the Rephi Portal and Human Exploration of Space", by Noah Therrien While everyone is familiar with how the invention of the Rephi Portals opened up the nearby stars, what isn't considered as much is how long before the stars were open, the Portals made our own Solar System far more accessible. The first Portals linked Earth with nearby asteroids, Mars, and then the asteroid belt. After that came the complex miniature "solar system like" environments of Jupiter and Saturn with their myriad moons and more. Eventually portals linked as far out as some Kuiper Belt objects and even to the Oort Cloud. The experience of developing these made the next great leap possible. The Portals also made it possible for craft that had never been intended for such runs to suddenly become feasible for making trips nearly anywhere the Portals went. ------------------ I'm finally delving into new ship models and feeling like I'm getting my "space ship legs" back in working order again. It's awfully fun to be doing Science Fiction again! The ship model is entirely my own creation, using only Bryce Primitives. Many of the textures are my own work as well, while the "framework elements" are mostly presents. The view of Mimas comes courtesy of NASA. I wish I could have matched the focus more closely to that of the space ship, but I like the over all feel of actual NASA imagery so I'll just have to live with it. Compositing and postwork all done in Photoshop. As always, comments/critiques are always welcome.

It never ceases to amaze me at the things you (and a couple other Bryce artists) are able to produce, Mike! I'm just blown away..... I've tried Bryce a few times, and all I could manage were a few simple landscapes. Anything more complex I tried just resulted in it crashing... Anyway, this is truly astounding! And I love your "future history" stories... I'm anxiously awaiting Thursday's first flight of Orion....

Your modeling skills are getting better and better with every post that I see. You my friend definitely have developed your own style that sets your designs apart from others I see here at Renderosity. There are quite a few here at Renderosity that have developed their own unique style and you are one that I enjoy viewing your work. You, plus a few others here like my bro ( thelordofdragons), wblack, geirla, kjer_99, dcmstarships, whiskeysierra, vncnt9663, RobertJ, by duo, carib98, rj001, starbase1, and karl.garnham1 just to name a few is what keeps me inspired to create new designs. My apologies if I have missed anyone from this list as there are so many talented artist that I get my inspiration from. Cheers, David

Upping the game on those models. Is the Mimas texture based on Voyager imagery. The Cassini imagery has much better coverage and is generally higher resolution.
