My Brave Knight I waved my love goodbye today, As off to battle he rode. His armour shone so brightly, And his steed so proudly strode. He is a brave and loyal knight, And I am his bequeathed. To most he is a fearsome sight, But I see far beneath. His heart is true and full of love, With body strong and able. His bravery comes from above, Like the heroes of old fable. The wedding is set for three months hence, I will hardly stand the waiting. Then celebrations will commence, To sanctify our mating. Well time it drags so very slow, But still no word I hear. I try my wedding dress to sew, And hope he will appear. At last a message has arrived, I run to hear the tiding. But this is not the news I craved, I’ll not listen to this lying. How can it be that he is lost? How can life be so cruel? A spear was drawn and squarely tossed, And from his horse he did fall. So now I am alone for good, For no other will I choose. He did, it’s said, all that he should, So why then did he lose?
