Description

To look at me black you'll see, but an ivory mother proves to be In between worlds, torn between races they only see the colored faces Skin golden bronze, hair curly black eyes pierce my body, but one thing they lack The ability to see beyond the surface living their lives missing the purpose they snarl their nose and turn their heads when they pass us nothing is said Physical appearance holds prisoner my soul It's their ignorance, but we pay the toll close your eyes and open your heart See me for me, it's only a start Generous, friendly, caring, and keen qualities I possess never before seen Change the world is this the key You'd be surprised if you were me ~ Kim Hensley
This image is dedicated to my 10-year-old biracial son. He's had some tough times with some of the kids in school these past few years. But no matter what he has had to face....he still gets up and goes to school with his head held high. I love you, sweetheart.

Excellent work! It is so beautiful to see you show your son so much love and to be proud of who he is. As Pat said above, kids can be so cruel to each other. Hugs!

I agree that it's a beautiful dedication! And nice render work as well! Yeah, it's a shame some people poke fun at others for the color of their skin, or anything they think is different. Thanks for sharing the poem and your render! God Bless!!!!!!!!

Fabulous image and sentiment. We've all been there and as we all know, these taunts and jibes go away as we get older. I'm so glad that your son has such strength of character to be able to put it behind him with your guidance. I'm sure he is as proud of you as you are of him. Best wishes to you all. :)

To think people are so mean and yet,its in our nature...at some point, the bullies will be us and shame is we may never even see it til the damage is done. From that point, its what we do that shows our character...kids can be cruel and most grow out of it,but those that don't pass it on to the next generation.I've seen that rambunctious son of yours...he's strong and happy, but there will always be these moments and I just bet he'll prove himself stronger than even he is aware he can be!!He has a younger brother...so his strength will be an example and I think he'll be a good one;)

I was almost in tears after seeing this picture. You have captured the feeling of isolation expressed in this boy's face so poignantly. All the best.

I too have a son who was bullied at school but for other reasons. Your heart aches for them and wants to protect and sheild them from this pain. It has made your son stronger it made mine more fearful of standing out as being different. Be very proud of him as I am sure he is of you :o) an awesome tribute to him Chris ;o)

Awesome image and spirit! You know, it has been said that someday, perhaps not in our lifetime, there will be only one race. To grow up without knowing the diversity of life is to live in a cage. Your son is truly the beautiful one, when he recognizes that we are all the same and it is "their" problem, not his. Give him extra hugs from me! -- Melody

Excellent work here! Your son sounds like he's a very strong kid to endure what he goes through at school. I would like to send out a shout to him to stay encourage and everything will be alright!

Wow, what a striking image. You really captured the pain, and sadness. It's so had being young, and must be especially hard for your son. He's got spirit, and so does his mom. Excellent, very expressive poem and image. :o) CC

Kids can be so cruel on anything that is different and it's the strong kid that can keep their comments in check and appreciate their heritage. Excellent image, very touching and poignant...

dear, this image holds a truely huge feeling inside. I must just by far imagine how cruel and how terrible these behaviours can be against such a young heart.. Hope this will find a solution: your love though is the best medicine for your son. Love always wins.
