Description

of course mr. escher did this better, but it was a challenge to draw it in a 3d prog. it was made from scratch in sketchup. apart from the text no postwork. it took a very long time to make :-)

Koosie, all of your efforts to create this incredible feat was well worth it. You created a wonderful image and construct that should make you proud. Your perseverance paid off. This is masterful. A definite favorite!

You can play with Moebius strips and find strange magical things: with a strip of paper, turn one of the extremities 180° before sticking it, like your exemple. Cut the Moebius strip all along in the middle. You will get another Moebius strip. Now, create a new strip but turn an extremity 360° before sticking and if you cut the strip all along the middle, you will get two cylinders of paper fitted together. Are you curious? Make a new strip turning 360°+180°, stick it and cut it all along. Then make a new one turning 720°....cut it You will have strange things to discover....

WOW! It is fun to try and follow the surface and find out that somehow you ended up on the other (same?) side!

I can believe it took a long time...the curves, the altering perspectives, and, on top of all that, your open texture so we see the pawns 'through' the strip—you really made a headache for yourself! It's all done with deftness and ease, and actually feels relaxed and even fun. I bet it wasn't fun to make though. Beautiful work, and your hues, I think, make it feel very restful.
