The selective appeal of rust & corrosion is an interesting phenomena. Some find it simply unpleasant & distasteful, while others, who find cheap, mass-produced plastic goods unpleasant & distasteful, appreciate old decaying things for their honesty & authenticity. I'm definitely in the latter camp (plus I have a very poor sense of smell, which can be a blessing at times)...

Your friend has a good sense of humor. Old ships are a little like old people. Most just see the wrinkles. The lucky ones see character, experience and untold stories. I'm curious to know what the new owner intends to do with this.
