Description

The girl came into the bridge and stopped next to Thistledown, sitting on the new Pathfinder seat. He blinked his eye and asked,"...and you are supposed to be?" She sighed,"Guess who?" Jeet looked up from his tool kit and asked,"Amma? What did they do to you? You look like an overly developed twelve year old with an inhumanly HUGE ASS! I'm afraid to go get one of those Remote-Pilot-Human-forms,NOW!" Hostess came over and said,"I like it! It DOES have personality!" She reached out and grabbed one of the breasts curiously. Amma sighed and removed her hand,"What is YOUR malfunction? Alien midget sex-perverts in OVERALLS?" She grinned,"It is to honor Floona, our HERO! She wore some like this just before her AMAZING flying stunt! It was thought that... WAIT! Incoming communication from deep-space FTL link! It's...THE RAHKOSHANS. They want to talk to the ship from Balaam!" Thistledown sat up. Amma asked,"Do you want me to man the helm?" He shook his head. He said,"Jeet! You are the only one to EVER talk with the Rahkoshan SUCCESSFULLY in living memory. You talk to them!" He sighed."Fine. GO from installing a new chair to Comm Officer! Patch them through,Hostess!" An androgynous voice said,"Our eyes touch your face. Is Jeet of Balaam's face there to be touched?" Jeet looked at the image of his previous appearance and grimaced in embarrassment. He said,"I am Jeet. No longer larval stage, am now adult form. Touch your eyes to my new form. Jeet talked with Smells-of-Violet on Balaam about Neblae and Narchi. No faster-than-light before. NOW we have openings to Hyperspace. What do you want to tell our faces? I cannot ...smell your information." Amma muttered,"SMELL your information?" He glared at her. She held up a hand. The voice said,"The crashed Chimer ship was attacked by humans NOT of Balaam, but of an ancient experiment gone wrong." Jeet looked intently,"Were their faces MALE and numbering FOUR?" Thistledown clapped his hands,"Oh-HO! Very good!" The voice said,"The ones you know the faces of? Yes. We smelled of the twisting change in the feel of the universe where you are. The male faces stole Chimer weapons! They flatten the universe like rollers on the nose." Amma asked," 'Rollers on the NOSE'? What?" Jeet looked hard at her. She shrugged. Jeet asked,"It... untwists changes with the roller on the nose?" Thistledown saw that Jeet was sweating profusely. The voice said,"More than untwisting! It claws the wrapped until they DIE! It FLATTENS. Many of them were taken by the four faces of male humanness! The Chimers are filled with wrath." Jeet took a deep breath. He said,"There are only THREE faces of male humanness left. We almost killed another yesterday. We WILL kill them all. We are filled with wrath as well. We will try to kill the male faces of humanness that attacked the Chimers. WAIT!" Suddenly he looked stunned. He turned to Thistledown. "Where's TWL or Starshine? Call one RIGHT NOW!" Jeet glistened with sweat as Thistledown thought furiously. After a moment he said,"TWL, we're in communication with the Rahkoshan. Jeet wants you to say something in the language of the Abel about our dedication to stop the Four Brothers?" Jeet shot a thumbs up sign at Thistledown. TWL said,"Oh, alright. If it'll help?" Jeet said,"We have Children of Abel who want to speak to your eyes!" TWL chimed and rang like tinkling bells. There was a long pause that seemed like they lost the transmission. Sudennly the chiming over the radio was like a full orchestra. The complexity and beauty of it held them spell-bound. TWL chimed back with some real emotion. After another long time, the voice said,"The Chimers are satisfied. They will not act at this time. We will be touching your face in the future." Hostess looked shocked,"YOU...TALKED TO THE CHIMERS IN REAL TIME?" She fainted dead away. Jeet shrugged."Some people are overly impressed." --to be continued!--

Sooo the four brother, or three now... Caused the initial murders that involved the chimers, and then the Rahkoshan setting into motion everything that has happened sp far. Now they have stolen weapons that will unravel probability and destroy the stream of time.. I think the word is flatten.... shred it. No, the four brothers are both insane and utterly brilliant. (You know what they say about insanity and genius.) I wonder what the radius of effect is? I do believe that the humans of balaam will end up being the only humans to have an alliance with the Chimers. I wonder if wait... If the four brother started everything..... pointing everthing at balaam.. Was that the reason Aldus was on Balaam? (Because you know i believe that he is Azreal.) And it all just seems to fit together now.

I like this one. An interesting conversation with an extremely alien race that sounded like a conversation with an alien race. Joel, you have done something that most SF authors have not been able to do: create a simple alien conversation that sounds both understandable and alien. I enjoyed the conversation. (BTW: One of the few authors that can do this successfully is Richard Adams who wrote "Watership Down" and "The Plague Dogs" in which the animals feel like animals rather than furry humans.) CrownPrince: I think Aldus being Azreal makes sense. It feels right, but it's difficult to prove because all the Druaga have that "sense of absolute identity" which certainly makes it easier for them at parties.

I am amazed at your imagination, & the detail you manage to get into your images, I might not comment very often, but I am watching you ;-) LOL. Nicely done, keep it up.

Great beginning! I love Thistledown's and Jeet's reactions. (Nice to see them again btw) You have such wonderful and complex characters, I quite miss them when they've been off screen for a while. I imagine them backstage, singing the song from Spamalot "Whatever Happened to my Part?" Of course, I know they are really terribly busy with all your complicated back stories! Jeet is not exactly PC, though he doesn't hold a candle to the hostess in that department. Love the dialog with the Rahkoshans, and Jeet's embarrassment and quick response about his changed appearance. Amma's contributions and Jeet's reactions to them, are very funny. I love the part where TWL chimes to them. You got wonderfully across their surprise and delight at hearing her. Excellent image with humor to match the narrative! Azreal is Aldus? If so I never liked Aldus so well! You know I'm still working on warming up to Aldus. Excellent episode!
