Description

Another building on Monterey Square in Savannah, Georgia Now called the Mercer Williams House Museum If you are familiar with the book or the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," this is the house. I didn't realize I'd taken a picture of it, because I haven't read the book or seen the movie, nor do I care, but it IS a lovely building, and quintessentially Savannah. Incidentally, it was built for the great-grandfather of composer Johnny Mercer, who wrote hundreds of songs, including "Moon River." Johnny Mercer never lived in the house, but if you were wondering, "any relation?" the answer is yes. :) Don't get used to me posting a picture of the whole house and telling you about it. This picture, as well as On the Square are just an introduction to the city. I made sure I got a few shots like this in order to give you some context if you haven't been there. I'm not going to try to get caught up on comments, but I've enjoyed looking at your pictures! We arrived back at our place in Washington State on Thursday afternoon, and are all settled in. I came back to yet another Renderosity redesign, but this one seems to be pretty usable and not as cumbersome as the last one. Anybody who thinks this is terrible, just remember the "Revolution" of a couple years ago! LOL! Yikes!

I am familiar with the history of the South but I still think it was nice of Sherman not to burn down everything. Another superb capture.

A very beautiful house and thankyou for the background information as sadly I will never be able to see this for real. The trees really set this place off. I love your capture. 😀

A lovely photo, Tara - I do love those old southern homes - they have so much personality..

Yeah, this last update was a minor gust of wind compared that cyclone 'Revolution' a couple years ago.. I still get nauseous remembering it... ewwww

yeah I know, you don't usually take shots of 'whole houses', lol, but I'm glad you did here. This one shines in the bleaching sunlight, while the trees give a curtained veil around its beautiful facade. I had no idea Johnny Mercer came from here, and I DID see "Midnight in the Garden (etc etc)," and don't remember this house. But I love the blast of light it provides through the overhanging richness of the trees. And the low-laying car, whose lines help the horizontals flow smoothly. And the glimpse of the street moving away from us, on the right: Reminds me of Old Town (in Chicago), with its red brick sidewalks...Another lush, beautiful capture. And the house has certain Georgian elements as well (though it may not be Georgian...)
