Description
One of my fave quotes of this Black American Poet, Maya Angelou, is "We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated."
In her biography, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" Maya Angelou writes -- "The Black female is assaulted in her tender years by all those common forces of nature at the same time that she is caught in the tripartite crossfire of male prejudice, white illogical hate and Black lack of power."
In 1993, Angelou recited her poem "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Bill Clinton's inauguration, the first poet to make an inaugural recitation since Robert Frost at John F. Kennedy's inauguration in 1961.
