Description

The Orion Nebula is a star forming region in the sword of Orion. Visible to the naked eye as a smudgy looking, it lies about 1340 light years distance. So, the object that you see in this image is actually how it appeared around the year 670. I've posted this nebula before. But, I liked the way that this one turned out, using relatively modest equipment including a 92mm refractor telescope and Canon Rebel XSi DSLR. The image is a combination of exposures taken at 10, 30, and 60 seconds. Maxim DL and Photoshop were used for post-work. The image was taken from Bethany, DE on Thanksgiving night as it rose in the Eastern sky over the ocean.
