Description

The Mary Hume was built in 1881-82. She sailed into this moorage in 1979 under her own power and hasn't moved since. Her ancient wooden hull lost its ability to float years ago...now at high tide the water rises to the green algae line at the level of her cabin portholes. Taken in late afternoon at Gold Beach, Oregon.

What an incredibly sharp and crystal clear shot, Bill; the light is beautiful and warm, and the whole thing just makes me want to sit and look at it for a long, long time. Well done!

it is a shame that they let this ship go like this - 'tis not a fittin' way for a lady to go.... Great capture

The algae is lovely, as is the grass. If something is going to decline, it's good to have a bit of class during the process. Great shot!

Gorgeous light! A surveyor once described my house in writing as having ' an aura of elegant decay', and I think this merits the same phrase!

Excellent shot bud. But what a shame she sits and rots like this eh? Oh well I suppose she is a natural reef for the aquatic creatures to live in.

Terrific atmosphere in this looming sunset image of the old Mary Hume in shambles, just deteriorating away on the shoals, Bill. And, is that someone in front, possibly an android, with an oar? Also, don't miss my Hughes H-4 Hercules Spruce Goose postings #2 and #3.

Kind of sad in a way, and yet a beauty in her slow decay. I'll bet she could tell some stories... A beautiful shot, Bill!

Another fine shot (I've posted a couple of this decaying ship quite a while back). Did you get a chance to eat at Anna's while you were in Gold Beach? We ate there Saturday night & had another fine meal of their "nouvelle Canadian prairie cuisine", the best food we've had anywhere on the Oregon coast & a very warm, friendly atmosphere to boot...

Broke down and abandoned, but with the ocean's help it has turned into a lovely sight.
