Scotland, Argyll, Glencoe
When you are in a valley between 2 peaks on the ridge you really cannot see where you are (you have a view like in this photo here), so we lost the direction and could not find the path we came up! we walked and walked.
In an area where I guess that no one ever walked through and in high grass SUDDENLY a million of flies (long,small, black) attacked me.
It was such a sudden shock that I was jumping, screaming and arm waving because I didn't know whether they are biting or not!?
My hair was filled with flies and so my jacket.
Even in the evening after the shower I found dead flies on my body! ;o(
Maybe someone of you know what kind of flies or flying ants it was?
For Bob: I always was in September in Scotland because there seldom are Midges. I think in summer it is more green.

The flies must have been midges Rita and rather you than me - I hate the damned things. Lovely shot btw.

no, I know midges, they are very small and this king was as big as flies

it may have been swarming termites. they go like crazy and into everything beautiful landscape

This is a beautiful place to be lost! But the flies would be very unwelcome!

WOW! A wonderful landscape! One of my favorites. The lake in the middle of the terrain is beautiful. Also liked the vegetation and color variation of the land. Excellente photographic art. Congratulations sossy.

I know how you feel and I'm starting to itch at the moment. I ran into situations like that on my hikes... Luckily, I carried insect repellent and it helped us. Not sure it would have helped you with those flying flies in a frenzy... You might also want to think of a gps if you don't have one. Most times I won't need it but there were times when it came in handy. Wonderful capture with the mountains in the background. Aloha

I really like this view, I can see tht you get soaked walking in it. The highlands are apparently notrorous for their summer swarms of flies. It must have been especially horrid before repellent and proper clothing.

My only experience of nature in the north at its worse was a swarm of cleggies - horse flies - and those do bite. We fled like the hades themselves were in pursuit, but that was a forested area. Surprised by the flies, and such a lovely peaceful scene

Sorry for the late reply. Little bugs everywhere, even here in the desert. I like this image. It has the reflections of the blue sky;and, the surroundings of vegetation of a season gone by ...very nice.

Beautiful photograph! The black flies are what attack you just before the werewolves comes out. LOL (Okay, I just made that up! ;-)
